Robert Jordan, the veteran news anchor and reporter at WGN-Channel 9, has been named the first journalist-in-residence at the University of Chicago’s Careers in Journalism, Arts, and Media program.
While continuing his full-time anchoring and reporting duties for the Tribune Media station, Jordan will spend much of the fall quarter on campus, where he’ll conduct a series of workshops, lead panels with other Chicago producers, editors and news directors, and meet with students who hope to pursue journalism and media careers. He also plans to work with staffers on the Chicago Maroon, the university’s student newspaper. Continue reading
Anabel Monge
With the hiring of Anabel Monge from the Univision station in San Antonio, Telemundo Station Group’s WSNS-Channel 44 returns to a dual-anchor news format at 5 and 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Alfonso Gutierrez, who’s been anchoring “Noticiero Telemundo Chicago” solo since Edna Schmidt left in October 2013, will be joined next month by Monge, whose hiring was announced Thursday. Continue reading
Holly Gilson
Holly Gilson, former director of corporate communications for the parent company of Chicago’s public television station and classical music radio station, has joined Lyric Opera of Chicago as deputy director of communications.
Gilson began this week at what she called “a place full of wonderfully smart, creative and supportive people,” adding: “I look forward to making contributions here.”
At the world renowned opera company, she reports to director of marketing Lisa Middleton, and succeeds Alexandra Day, who left to become director of communications and marketing strategy at The Juilliard School in Manhattan. Continue reading

All eyes were on a Waukegan courtroom Wednesday as Chicago media covered the sentencing of Carly Rousso, the woman convicted of homicide after she huffed computer cleaner then struck and killed 5-year-old Jaclyn Santos-Sacramento on Labor Day 2012. Continue reading
Cisco Cotto
Veteran Chicago broadcaster Cisco Cotto, who spent the last decade as a talk show host for both secular and religious stations, is returning to his roots as a radio newsman.
Cotto, 39, was hired Tuesday as an anchor/reporter at WBBM AM 780 and WCFS FM 105.9, according to Ron Gleason, director of news and programming for the top-rated CBS Radio all-news station. He’s expected to start on the air next week. Continue reading
Katie Kim
They’re rolling out the welcome mat at WMAQ-Channel 5 for Katie Kim, just in from KRQE-TV, the CBS affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Kim joins the NBC-owned station as a general assignment reporter effective October 20, according to Frank Whittaker, station manager and vice president of news at NBC 5. Continue reading

Kris Kridel, host of “The Noon Business Hour” and one of the most respected voices on Chicago radio, is back in afternoon drive on WBBM AM 780 and WCFS FM 105.9.
In a realignment of Monday-through-Friday shifts at the top-rated CBS Radio all-news station, Kridel will start her on-air duties with midday news anchor Sherman Kaplan on the noon show and stay on to anchor afternoon newscasts with Keith Johnson through 6 p.m. Continue reading

If it was hard for Cheryl Scott’s legion of fans to see her bid farewell from WMAQ-Channel 5 Sunday night, it wasn’t any easier for Scott.
“Signing off this weekend was difficult for me,” said Scott, who delivered her final forecast as the NBC-owned station’s weekend meteorologist. “It’s been three great years at NBC, and the outpouring of support from Chicago viewers has been amazing. It’s a whole new day at WLUP FM 97.9 as the Cumulus Media classic rock station unveils a revamped weekday talent lineup Monday.
Returning as afternoon personality is Tim Virgin, who previously worked at The Loop in the mid-’90s before two stints at alternative rock WKQX FM 101.1. He most recently hosted afternoons at KEGY in San Diego. Continue reading
