Kim Berk, who was one-half of a long-running New York radio team, is about to join Brant Miller’s morning show on Cumulus Media classic hits WLS FM 94.7.

Berk, who debuts Thursday as Miller’s co-host and news anchor, will work from studios at 190 North State Street, while Miller will continue to broadcast from home. Marti Jones will continue as traffic reporter on the show, airing from 5:30 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday.

“We are fortunate that a phenomenal talent like Kim was available to join Brant and the morning team on WLS FM,” Peter Bowen, vice president and Chicago market manager of Cumulus Media, said in a statement. “This is another piece of the puzzle that will bring WLS back to the top.”

A New York native, Berk spent part of her childhood growing up in northwest suburban Arlington Heights and attended Indiana University before starting her radio career in Cincinnati.

Berk previously worked with Brian Thomas, program director of WLS FM and corporate program director for Cumulus Media. As vice president of programming for CBS Radio and program director of WWFS in New York, Thomas hired Berk and partner Jim Douglas after 11 years at WKJY in Long Island in 2009. Berk exited WWFS last July.

“It’s really creating more entertainment before 9 o’clock in the morning,” Thomas said of the new morning partnership. “There’s a whole funny, exciting side to Brant that I think Kim will bring out on the air.”

Miller, whose main job is chief meteorologist at NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5, has been doubling as morning host on WLS FM since October 2012. He previously hosted mornings on the station from 2008 to 2010.

WLS FM briefly teamed Miller with Jack Diamond, a longtime Washington, D.C., radio personality, but Diamond’s rocky tenure ended last July.

In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, WLS FM tied for 16th in mornings with a 2.2 percent share and cumulative weekly audience 329,700.
