Robin Robinson, who was a star news anchor on Chicago television for three decades, is about to turn up on the city’s top-rated all-news radio station.

The former principal news anchor at Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32 began training this week as a part-time and fill-in anchor at CBS Radio WBBM AM 780 and WCFS FM 105.9. Julie Mann, managing editor of WBBM Newsradio, welcomed Robinson in a memo to the staff Thursday.

No on-air start date has been set, but Robinson is expected to begin anchoring duties within the next few weeks. Although that’s it for now, no one would be surprised if her role at the station were to expand in the near future.

Robinson, 57, last appeared on WBBM Newsradio February 24 as a guest analyst during coverage of Chicago’s municipal elections. Along with her appearance as a panelist on the February 10 mayoral debate on CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2, that fueled speculation of a comeback for her at CBS.

Before she began her 27-year run at Fox 32 in 1987, Robinson spent three years as a reporter and news anchor at CBS 2. The Chicago native has been working on a variety of projects since she left Fox 32 last July.

Robinson will emcee the Chicago Headline Club’s 38th annual Peter Lisagor Awards for Exemplary Journalism May 8 at the Union League Club of Chicago.
