Forty years after Disco Demolition, it’s nice to know the Chicago White Sox don’t hold a grudge against Steve Dahl.

The Chicago media legend and Radio Hall of Famer will throw out the first pitch June 13 at Guaranteed Rate Field when the White Sox play the New York Yankees.

Commemorating the upcoming 40th anniversary of the infamous incident — and coinciding with "Free T-Shirt Thursday" — a Disco Demolition-themed T-shirt will be distributed to the first 10,000 fans who enter the ballpark.

It won't be the first time Dahl has thrown out the first pitch. For his previous honor more than a decade ago, Dahl recalled: “I practiced for three weeks and threw a strike to good old No. 21, Esteban Loaiza.”

On the fateful night of July 12, 1979, the White Sox sponsored an anti-disco promotion with the former WLUP 97.9-FM at old Comiskey Park.

Dahl, then the 24-year-old recently-hired morning personality at The Loop, exploded a box of disco records between games at the double-header against the Detroit Tigers. When thousands of rowdy fans stormed the field, the ensuing pandemonium and extensive damage forced the White Sox to forfeit the second game.

Ironically, Dahl was supposed to throw out the first pitch at that time as well.

“They asked me to do it on [Disco Demolition] night too, but after Lorelei (the original Loop Girl) threw her pitch to the catcher, Mike Colbern, he came out to talk to her — pretty girl — and I was left standing on the mound in my helmet and army jacket with no one to throw to — dopey guy," he said.

"I think it’s really great that the White Sox are embracing the 40th anniversary. I’m looking forward to having my family out there with me, and I’m hoping to throw another strike. Or at least have someone to throw it to.”
