Citing pipe bombs sent to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, CNN and others Wednesday, the Chicago Tribune turned away delivery of all packages to its Prudential Plaza headquarters. A memo to staffers from Tim Knight, president of Tribune Publishing, and Bruce Dold, publisher and editor of the Tribune, said: “Out of caution, we suspended package delivery this morning to our Chicago Tribune offices at Prudential Plaza and enhanced our inspection of packages delivered to Freedom Center. No suspicious packages have been received at our offices.” Staffers were advised to report suspicious activity to security.
WCPT 820
On the eve of the midterm elections, a new time-brokered weekly show is coming to Newsweb Radio progressive talk WCPT 820-AM. “To the Left with Sameena and Shana,” hosted by Sameena Mustafa and Shana East, will air at 1 p.m. Sundays, starting this weekend. “We are embedded in our communities and know how hard it is to get coverage for movement work," said East, an organizer and former staff member on the presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders. "That’s why we plan to have segments like, ‘This is What Intersectionality Looks Like,’ so activists can share their calls to action with our listeners.” Mustafa ran as a Justice Democrat against Rep. Mike Quigley in the March primary.
Jim Jaworski
Jim Jaworski has resigned as digital news editor at the Chicago Tribune to join the Wall Street Journal as senior platform editor, starting in December. He previously worked as a reporter for the Sun-Times before joining the Tribune in 2009. He was named digital news editor in 2013. "I have so many good things to say about my time at the Tribune, which is why this decision felt so dramatic and overwhelming to me," Jaworski told Facebook friends. "I'm going to make sure I tell my coworkers in person how much they have meant to me."
Kristin Byrne
Kristin Byrne, who’s been filling in as traffic reporter at WLS-Channel 7 whenever Roz Varon is away, is leaving the ABC-owned station to join WTMJ, the NBC affiliate in Milwaukee, as consumer reporter. "Kristin is excited to start this new chapter, and we’re thrilled for her," Sarah Burke, assistant news director at ABC 7, told staffers. Before joining ABC 7 last year, Byrne worked for WEWS, the ABC affiliate in Cleveland, and WBAY, the ABC affiliate in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Jerry Springer
Weigel Broadcasting flagship WCIU-Channel 26 has already picked up “Judge Jerry,” the new syndicated daytime courtroom show to be hosted next fall by Jerry Springer. No time period has been set for the show, which will feature Springer wearing a judge’s robe and seated behind a desk, according to published reports. Springer's syndicated daytime talk show, which has run its course after 28 seasons, airs at 3 and 4 p.m. weekdays on Fox-owned WPWR-Channel 50.
Wednesday’s comment of the day: Larry Wert: Steve [Dahl], as a media personality and friend, has been and is one of the highlights in my career/life. I cannot think of many that have generated as much brilliant, unscripted content over the past four decades. Bravo to Steve, Janet and all the kids.
