Kristen Nicole, who has been anchoring weekends on WFLD-Channel 32 since March, was promoted Monday to weekday morning news anchor at the Fox-owned station.
Nicole will join Natalie Bomke on the anchor desk of “Good Day Chicago” from 4:30 to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. She replaces George Smith, who is moving to full-time sports anchor and reporter at Fox 32.
It’s a return to a familiar beat for Smith, who previously worked as a reporter for ESPN in Chicago and Washington, D.C. Smith joined Fox 32 in October 2015 shortly after he left WOIO, the CBS affiliate in Cleveland, where he was a news anchor and reporter.
Nicole joined Fox 32 last March from WLEX, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, Kentucky, where she had been an anchor and reporter. The Indianapolis native and DePauw University graduate also was a reporter at WISE, the NBC affiliate in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
No decision has been made on a replacement for Nicole as anchor of the Saturday and Sunday editions of “Good Day Chicago.”
