MeTV FM partners with CBS 2 on news updates

Weigel Broadcasting’s MeTV FM, the increasingly popular soft-rock oldies station at WRME 87.7-FM, has teamed up with CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 on news and weather updates.

News anchors and reporters from CBS 2 have begun providing 10 updates each weekday during morning and afternoon drive time in exchange for on-air promotions.

The partnership is similar to a three-year deal between MeTV FM and WGN 720-AM, which ended after Nexstar Media took over the news/talk station in its recent acquisition of Tribune Media.

“The quick hits on the day’s top stories and weather we’ll be getting from the CBS 2 news team will be an ideal complement to our music-intensive presentation,” Rick O’Dell, program director of MeTV FM, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to have them onboard providing us with quality news content.”

Derek Dalton, president and general manager of CBS 2, called it "a wonderful opportunity for CBS 2 and MeTV FM to join our audiences," adding: "Providing daily news content to the MeTV FM listeners, CBS 2 is taking another step to extend its reach in support of our communities.“

While CBS 2 continues to lag behind its competitors in the ratings, MeTV FM is on pace to hit its highest numbers all year. In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, the station tied for 10th overall with a 3.4 percent audience share and ranked among the top 10 in middays, afternoons and evenings.
