Charlie De Mar, a Chicago native who’s been a reporter for two stations in Indianapolis, is coming home to work for CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2.
De Mar starts June 15 as a full-time general assignment reporter for CBS 2, the station announced Thursday.
“Charlie is a talented journalist who knows Chicago and understands what ‘Original Reporting’ means,” Jeff Kiernan, vice president and news director of CBS 2, said in a statement. “His style of news-gathering and reporting aligns with our mission to provide viewers with a fresh perspective on what’s happening in and around Chicago.”
De Mar, who grew up in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and attended Francis W. Parker School, graduated cum laude from the University of Arizona in 2012. Since 2014 he has been a reporter for CBS affiliate WTTV and Fox affiliate WXIN in Indianapolis. Both stations are owned by Tribune Media and located in the same building.
For two years before that De Mar worked as a reporter and fill-in news anchor at WFFT, the Fox affiliate in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Among his student internships was a stint in the sales department of Tribune Media news/talk WGN AM 720.
“Chicago is my hometown and I’m excited to return as a journalist and work for the station that inspired me to become a reporter,” he said in a statement. “CBS 2 is the epitome of a great news organization and I’m thrilled to have been asked to join this talented team.”
