{"id":7979,"date":"2015-06-19T06:40:16","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T11:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.robertfeder.com\/?p=7979"},"modified":"2015-06-19T06:42:19","modified_gmt":"2015-06-19T11:42:19","slug":"wcpt-promotes-wayne-besen-to-weekday-afternoons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/robertfeder.dailyherald.com\/2015\/06\/19\/wcpt-promotes-wayne-besen-to-weekday-afternoons\/","title":{"rendered":"WCPT promotes Wayne Besen to weekday afternoons"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_7980\" style=\"width: 730px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robertfeder.dailyherald.com\/2015\/06\/19\/wcpt-promotes-wayne-besen-to-weekday-afternoons\/\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7980\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7980\" alt=\"Wayne Besen\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Wayne-Besen.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-7980\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/a> Wayne Besen<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wayne Besen, a prominent gay rights activist who hosts a weekend talk show on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagosprogressivetalk.com\" target=\"_blank\">WCPT AM 820 and WCPT FM 92.5,<\/a> is moving up to Monday-through-Friday afternoon host on the Newsweb Radio progressive talk station.<\/p>\n<p>As the station\u2019s first live and local weekday program, \u201cThe Wayne Besen Show\u201d will replace the syndicated \u201cJeff Santos Show\u201d and air from 2 to 5 p.m., starting July 20.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWayne will be at the center of the conversation on issues of importance and interest to all Chicagoans,\u201d Charley Gross, president of Newsweb Radio, said in a statement. \u201cAt\u00a0the same time, Wayne will speak directly to Chicago's LGBT community as part of WCPT's Pride Radio Project, which also includes \u2018Out Chicago,\u2019 openly-gay morning host Stephanie Miller, and \u2018The Hal Sparks Show.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since April 2014 Besen has hosted \u201cI\u2019ve Got Issues\u201d from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturdays on WCPT.\u00a0It follows Dick Kay\u2019s \u201cBack on the Beat,\u201d which airs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.<\/p>\n<p>Besen is the founding executive director of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truthwinsout.org\" target=\"_blank\">Truth Wins Out,<\/a>\u00a0a Chicago-based nonprofit group dedicated to fighting antigay prejudice. He is the author of <em>Anything But Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth<\/em> and <em>Bashing Back: Wayne Besen on GLBT People, Politics and Culture.<\/em> He also worked as a reporter for WABI-TV, the CBS affiliate in Bangor, Maine.<\/p>\n<p>Next week Besen will fill in locally for vacationing morning host Stephanie Miller from 8 to 11 a.m. on WCPT.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, WCPT tied for 35th place with a 0.7 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 150,200.<\/p>\n<p>Newsweb Radio is owned by Fred Eychaner, the Chicago media magnate and prominent contributor to liberal candidates and causes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wayne Besen, a prominent gay rights activist who hosts a weekend talk show on WCPT AM 820 and WCPT FM 92.5, is moving up to Monday-through-Friday afternoon host on the Newsweb Radio progressive talk station.
