<\/a> Jarrett Payton<\/p><\/div>\n

Jarrett Payton, the sportscaster son of the late Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton, is adding nightly television duties to his work with Tribune Media.<\/p>\n

Starting in early June, Payton will join the sports department of\u00a0WGN-Channel 9<\/a> and host a live sports talk show Sundays through Thursdays on cable channel CLTV.<\/a> He\u2019ll continue as host of \u201cThe Beat,\u201d the weekend sports talk show on news\/talk WGN AM 720.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cAfter a career in football, Jarrett has transitioned into a radio and television personality,\u201d Jennifer Lyons, news director of WGN and CLTV, said in announcing the hire Friday. \u201cAnd as Chicago\u2019s Very Own local sports station, Jarrett\u2019s knowledge and enthusiasm for sports will be the perfect addition to our sports department.\u201d<\/p>\n

Payton, 34, grew up in the northwest suburbs and played for the University of Miami, where he was named MVP of the 2004 Orange Bowl. His pro football career included a season with the NFL Tennessee Titans and stints with NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League. In 2010 he retired from the Chicago Slaughter of the Indoor Football League.<\/p>\n

Last year Payton joined Tribune Media as afternoon co-host of The Game, the short-lived FM sports\/talk station. When that venture folded, he shifted<\/a>\u00a0to hosting weekends on WGN Radio and podcasting<\/a> on WGNplus.com.<\/a><\/p>\n

Payton\u2019s sister, Brittney, also appears on WGN and CLTV as co-host of \u201cChicago\u2019s Best,\u201d the weekly food show. She\u2019s been with the program since its inception in 2010.<\/p>\n
