<\/a><\/a>Weigel Broadcasting, the Chicago-based company behind The U, Me-TV and other popular television channels, is about to launch an oldies radio format on WGWG LP 87.7 and rebrand it as MeTV FM.<\/a><\/p>\n Confirming a report here<\/a> December 30, the move marks Weigel Broadcasting\u2019s first foray into radio through an agreement with Venture Technologies Group, which owns the license for the low-power television frequency. It has been operating as an FM radio station under a variety of formats since 2008.<\/p>\n Weigel Broadcasting announced Monday that MeTV FM will debut in March with a format described as \u201ca unique blend of memorable, timeless and classic pop music that the boomer generation listened to from the 1960s through 1980s.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s the brainchild of Neal Sabin, vice chairman of Weigel Broadcasting, who said in a statement: \u201c87.7 MeTV FM will differ from the current 'classic hits' format by playing a much broader range of music skewing on the pop\/softer side including singer\/songwriters, album tracks and hits deemed 'oldies' by some programmers but considered gold by our target audience. This is 'Me Music' \u2014 memorable, easy music for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n Programming will originate from Weigel Broadcasting studios at 26 North Halsted Street. Effective February 23, the station\u2019s call letters will be changed to WRME.<\/p>\n Under an earlier agreement between Venture Technologies Group and Tribune Media, the station has been airing a simulcast of news\/talk WGN AM 720<\/a>\u00a0since January 1.
