"Roe

Roe Conn

On Steve Dahl’s first day back as afternoon personality at WLS AM 890 Monday, his predecessor assured the world that he’s alive and well — and will be heard from again.

“Like all transitions, this one has its challenges,” Roe Conn told his fans on Facebook, adding: “I plan on being back in your ears soon.”

Conn, 50, ended a 25-year run on WLS October 7 after the Cumulus Media news/talk station chose not to renew his contract or that of afternoon co-host Richard Roeper. “There’s no question that it’s jarring,” Conn told the Chicago Tribune the next day. “The truth in radio is you never know the last time you’re going to be on the air, because they don’t let you say goodbye.”

Reached Monday, Conn declined to comment on whatever network or local options he's pursuing, but left no doubt that he sees radio in his future. Speculation has centered on WGN AM 720, but sources at the Tribune Media news/talk station said there’s been no job offer so far.

Reacting to criticism from Ron Magers, the veteran WLS-Channel 7 news anchor and daily contributor to “Roe & Roeper,” Dahl acknowledged Monday that he could have handled things differently with Conn. "I like Roe a lot, and maybe I did owe him a call," Dahl told Magers, who was a guest on his first show. "I'm still afraid to call him."

While Conn plots his next move, he continues to appear on ABC 7’s “Windy City Live,” where he’s been a regular contributor since the show’s inception in 2011. He also turned up on Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32 Sunday with political editor Mike Flannery. Conn will be part of Fox 32’s primary election coverage Tuesday night as well.

Here is the text of Conn’s Facebook message Monday:

Thanks again to everyone for your incredibly kind words. It has been the honor of my life to be a part of your lives for the past two and a half decades. Like all transitions, this one has its challenges, but please know, I've been able to read all of your comments and will answer as many as I can.

I'm not able to answer the most dominant question, "what's next," quite yet. But I promise, you will be the first to know when that decision is finally made. I plan on being back in your ears soon, but in the meantime you can catch me mornings on “Windy City Live” on ABC 7 and tomorrow night I'll be on Fox 32's election night coverage. Fasten your seatbelts, I have a lot to say!
