It’s been two years since the unmistakable voice of Scott Shannon graced the FM airwaves in Chicago. Now the Radio Hall of Famer is about to make a comeback here.

“Scott Shannon Presents America’s Greatest Hits,” a brand-new nationally syndicated four-hour weekly show, has been picked up by CBS Radio’s 10 classic hits stations, including WJMK FM 104.3. Starting October 18, it will air from 6 to 10 a.m Saturdays on K-Hits, according to program director Todd Cavanah.

Each hour of the show will feature artist interviews, song countdowns, one-hit-wonders and commentary from Shannon, who said in a statement Thursday: "I love the medium of radio — everybody knows that — and I'll grab any chance possible to play the greatest hits of all time and tell stories about the artists, and the songs and the era that they come from.”

Shannon, 67, a 45-year radio veteran, will originate “America’s Greatest Hits” from WCBS FM in New York, where he hosts a top-rated morning show during the week.

For seven years, Shannon was a ubiquitous presence on WLS FM 94.7, where he launched his “True Oldies Channel” in 2005 and, for much of that time, doubled as program director and midday personality. When Cumulus Media switched to a classic hits format in 2012, Shannon’s voice-tracked midday show was dropped from the station.

Shannon still programs his True Oldies Channel at trueoldieschannel.com. He’s also heard as the announcer for Sean Hannity’s syndicated radio talk show.
