Just days after marking his one-year anniversary as morning personality on news\/talk WGN AM 720,<\/a> Steve Cochran<\/strong> received a big vote of confidence from his Tribune Broadcasting bosses. On Thursday he signed a new four-year contract to stay right where he is. Terms were not disclosed, but Todd Manley,<\/strong> vice president of content and programming at WGN, confirmed the deal and called Cochran \u201ca treasure to us.\u201d In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, WGN ranked second in mornings with a 5.4 percent share and a cumulative weekly audience of 276,600. \u201cThanks to my amazing staff of\u00a0Andrea Darlas, Dave Eanet, Orion Samuelson, Mary Vandevelde, Kevin Powell<\/strong> and my son, Ross,<\/strong> 5 a.m. is actually\u00a0fun,\u201d Cochran said. \u201cWorking for Jimmy de Castro,<\/strong> Todd Manley and Larry Wert<\/strong> is as good as it gets \u2014 and I feel like we are just getting started.\u201d<\/p>\n

Residential real estate columnist Dennis Rodkin,<\/strong> who joined Crain\u2019s Chicago Business<\/a> last February after 23 years at Chicago magazine, is about to change his own residence. He\u2019s moving to Monterey, California, to run a nursery with his younger brother. \u201cIt\u2019s not an easy thing to give up, but I\u2019m looking forward to working with my brother,\u201d Rodkin told Crain\u2019s columnist Shia Kapos,<\/strong> who first reported<\/a> the move. \u201cI've worked with some of the best journalists around. Chicago is a place where there are endless stories, especially about real estate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mike Majchrowitz<\/p><\/div>\n

Fox News Radio <\/a>White House correspondent Mike Majchrowitz,<\/strong> who once worked as a reporter for Tribune Broadcasting\u2019s CLTV here, died Sunday of throat cancer at 51. \u201cMike was an original \u2014 a solidly tenacious reporter, a thoughtful anchor and a good man,\u201d Mitch Davis,<\/strong> vice president of Fox News Radio, said in a statement. \u201cHe earned the respect of his colleagues for many things, not the least of which was his kindness.\u201d A graduate of Southern Illinois University, Majchrowitz spent two years at CLTV in the mid \u201990s.
