"Sven"Happy to see Chicago television’s legendary “Svengoolie” Rich Koz gracing the cover of Broadcasting & Cable magazine’s August 4 issue. Calling Koz’s character “the Chicago institution that’s cheesier than deep-dish pizza,” writer Michael Malone singles out Sven as the “face of creative local TV in America.” He also points out that the Illinois General Assembly has declared this October 31 "Svengoolie/Rich Koz Day" throughout the state. Notes Weigel Broadcasting’s Me-TV impresario Neal Sabin: “It’s not slick, it’s homespun. There’s so little of this kind of show left.”

John Dodge

Friends and colleagues are sending good thoughts and well wishes to veteran Chicago journalist John Dodge, executive producer of digital media at CBS 2 and former executive news editor at the Sun-Times. Dodge, who underwent surgery for a tumor behind his eye in 2006, disclosed over the weekend that another tumor has been discovered in the same place. Believe it or not, this isn’t Coppock’s first literary effort. In 2009 he wrote Fat Guys Shouldn't Be Dancin' at Halftime: An Irreverent Romp through Chicago Sports, published by Triumph Books.
