Eight months after she was forced to step down as main news anchor at WFLD-Channel 32, Robin Robinson is ending her 27-year run at the Fox-owned station.

Tonight marks her final appearance as a reporter on Fox 32’s 9 p.m. newscast with a story on “the evolution of awareness about the true nature of prostitution.”

Colleagues said Robinson cleaned out her office Sunday. No send-off for her has been announced or planned.

“Robin has mixed emotions as she signs off WFLD-TV tonight,” Robinson’s agent, Andrew Stroth, said in a statement. “She’s had an amazing run and developed relationships and equity with viewers throughout Chicago.

“As far as what’s next, she’s developing a pilot mini-series of hourlong shows with WYCC/PBS and recently shot the first interview with hip hop star, actor, author, activist Common and his mother. For now, Robin’s a free agent, and we’re exploring new television broadcast journalism opportunities for her in Chicago and on a national level.”

Since November, when Robinson was replaced as 9 p.m. anchor by Dawn Hasbrouck, she has been delivering special reports and features for Fox 32. But it was clear the decision to step down after 26 years as anchor was not hers. “This is what I wanted to do, where I wanted to be,” she told viewers in her farewell to the anchor chair.

Robinson, who turns 57 next week, is a Chicago native who’s been at Fox 32 since its news operation launched in August 1987. Her record run paired her with co-anchors Kris Long, Walter Jacobson, Mark Suppelsa, Jeff Goldblatt, Bob Sirott and Jeff Herndon. Before that, Robinson worked three years at CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2.
