{"id":3057,"date":"2014-04-14T14:00:15","date_gmt":"2014-04-14T19:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.robertfeder.com\/?p=3057"},"modified":"2014-04-14T14:00:15","modified_gmt":"2014-04-14T19:00:15","slug":"chicago-boss-out-at-hubbard-radio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/robertfeder.dailyherald.com\/2014\/04\/14\/chicago-boss-out-at-hubbard-radio\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicago boss out at Hubbard Radio"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3058\" style=\"width: 212px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/robertfeder.dailyherald.com\/2014\/04\/14\/chicago-boss-out-at-hubbard-radio\/\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3058\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3058\" alt=\"Jerry Schnacke\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Jerry-Schnacke.png\" width=\"202\" height=\"297\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3058\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/a> Jerry Schnacke<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Jerry Schnacke, a highly regarded 17-year Chicago broadcasting veteran, was forced out Monday as vice president and market manager of <a href=\"http:\/\/corporate.hubbardradio.com\/markets\/chicago\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hubbard Radio Chicago.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The surprise move came as Hubbard Radio executives said they wanted \u201ca fresh set of eyes\u201d to oversee their three blue chip Chicago stations \u2014 hot adult-contemporary WTMX FM 101.9, classic hits WDRV FM 97.1 and adult contemporary WILV FM 100.3.<\/p>\n<p>Drew Horowitz, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Hubbard Radio, will serve as interim market manager until a successor is named.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been very successful, and we\u2019ve got enviable operations in Chicago,\u201d Horowitz said in an interview. \u201cBut with the short and long-term challenges we\u2019re facing, we believe we needed to get a fresh set of eyes to help map strategies and tactics for the future. We didn\u2019t see enough new thinking to continue the success that we\u2019ve sustained for so long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saying Schnacke was \u201cpersonally beloved by everyone inside the stations and in the marketplace,\u201d Horowitz added: \u201cJerry has been an integral part of the past and current success of the stations. I have nothing but the utmost respect personally and professionally for him. I wish him nothing but success in whatever he chooses to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reached at home, Schnacke, 59, said: \u201cThe company wanted a new direction, and they wanted somebody else to do it.\u201d He declined further comment.<\/p>\n<p>Starting in 1997 as local sales manager of the Mix (then under Bonneville International ownership), Schnacke moved up to general sales manager the same year. In 2001, he was named vice president and general manager of the Drive. He succeeded Horowitz as market manager in 2007 and continued in the role after Hubbard Radio acquired the stations in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Despite an overall decline of 2.5 percent in 2013 Chicago radio revenue, the Mix had its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertfeder.com\/2014\/01\/16\/inside-chicago-radios-cash-register\/\" target=\"_blank\">best year ever,<\/a> boosting revenue 10 percent to $37.4 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jerry Schnacke, a highly regarded 17-year Chicago broadcasting veteran, was forced out Monday as vice president and market manager of Hubbard Radio Chicago.
