Terrell Brown, who signed off last week after five years as a CBS News correspondent, is on his way to WLS-Channel 7 as the ABC-owned station's anchor of the future.

Brown starts April 14 as a general assignment reporter and contributing anchor, ABC 7 Eyewitness News officials announced Tuesday.

“We’re tremendously excited to have Terrell join our team,” said John Idler, president and general manager of ABC 7. “We’re looking forward to his future both as a reporter and as a contributor to our anchor team.”

Like Tanja Babich, a recent hire from ABC affiliate WSYR-TV in Syracuse, New York, Brown appears certain to secure a permanent anchor slot at ABC 7. It’s purely speculative at this point, but if Brown and Babich eventually succeed Hosea Sanders and Judy Hsu on the weekday morning newscast, remember you read it here first.

Since 2009, Brown has worked for CBS News, where he reported stories from across the country and served as New York-based fill-in anchor of “Up to the Minute,” “CBS Morning News” and weekend editions of “CBS Evening News.”

Hired straight out of Virginia Commonwealth University under the network’s News Development Program, Brown joined CBS News from WWBT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Richmond, Virginia, where he’d worked while attending school. He's a native of Chesterfield, Virginia.

Brown’s departure from CBS News Friday was first noted by TVNewser, which reported an unspecified local station in Chicago as his destination.
