An all-star lineup of Joel Weisman\u2019s A-list guests over the years will headline an hourlong special tribute to the retiring host of \u201cChicago Tonight: The Week in Review.\u201d<\/p>\n

Airing at 7 p.m. Friday on public television\u00a0WTTW-Channel 11<\/a> (and online at wttw.com\/chicagotonight<\/a>) the special will mark Weisman\u2019s final appearance after a record 40 years as host of the weekly roundtable of Chicago journalists.<\/p>\n

Weisman, 75, a lifelong Chicagoan and distinguished journalist in both print and broadcasting,\u00a0announced <\/a>last month that he was retiring from the Window to the World Communications station, saying: \u201cDue to an ever\u2010increasing number of out\u2010of\u2010town family and professional commitments, and after much agonizing, I\u2019ve decided it\u2019s time to pass the baton.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among panelists confirmed for Weisman\u2019s big sendoff are David Axelrod, Lynn Sweet, Mary Mitchell, Lester Munson, Mary Ann Ahern, Charles Thomas, Bruce Dold and Natasha Korecki.<\/p>\n

Produced by Jay Smith and Alex Silets, the special will include a discussion of how Chicago and journalism have changed over the last four decades along with what\u2019s described as a \u201cfun segment\u201d on Weisman.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoel is a Chicago icon,\u201d said Mary Field, longtime executive producer of \u201cChicago Tonight.\u201d \u201cHe loves what he does and it\u2019s one of the reasons he\u2019s been such a success. I hope this final show will demonstrate how much we love him and what he means to all of us at WTTW.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show will continue to air at 7 p.m. Fridays with correspondents from the ranks of \u201cChicago Tonight\u201d serving as moderator each week.<\/p>\n
