He reportedly told friends he was born with a faulty valve or developed it early in life, and had been monitoring his condition for decades. The time to fix it was now, he told them.<\/p>\n<p>The south suburban Markham native has been a fixture in Chicago broadcasting since 1991, when he joined CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 as sports anchor.
