A spokeswoman for tronc<\/a> declined to comment on a report<\/a> Tuesday that the parent company of the Chicago Tribune<\/a> and Los Angeles Times was \u201cclosing in\u201d on a deal to buy Us Weekly,<\/a> the celebrity news and gossip magazine, from Jann Wenner.<\/strong> \u201cTronc chairman Michael Ferro<\/strong> [believes] the acquisition will move tronc toward becoming a major player in the celebrity news business and add both to its digital earnings and its digital transformation credibility,\u201d industry analyst Ken Doctor<\/strong> reported,<\/a> adding: \u201cThe celebrity\/entertainment allure serves as a constant in tronc's short history.\u201d If Ferro does land Us Weekly, here\u2019s betting he taps Susanna Homan,<\/strong> his hand-picked editor and publisher of Chicago magazine<\/a> and Splash,<\/a> for a major role.<\/p>\n

Tim Knight<\/p><\/div>\n

Tim Knight,<\/strong> who\u2019s back in Chicago and reunited with Michael Ferro <\/a>as president of troncX, the digital business division of tronc, will be paid a base salary of $600,000, according to a company filing <\/a>last week with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Knight also is eligible to receive an annual cash bonus \u201cwith a target of 100% of base salary,\u201d and an additional $262,500 for relocation expenses. Knight previously served as chief executive officer of Sun-Times<\/a> parent company Wrapports under Ferro. He left in 2015 \u2014 shortly before Ferro crossed over to Tribune Publishing (now tronc) \u2014 and spent 18 months overseeing cleveland.com<\/a> and the Cleveland Plain Dealer.<\/p>\n

Dan McCaleb<\/p><\/div>\n

Dan McCaleb,<\/strong> an editor with Shaw Media<\/a> since 2004, has joined Illinois News Network<\/a> as news director of ILNews.org.<\/a> He\u2019ll be responsible for creating and curating content for the website and working with reporters and editors statewide on news and enterprise reporting. McCaleb succeeds Lori Browning,<\/strong> who resigned last year. He most recently was editorial director of Shaw Media\u2019s newspapers in Illinois and Iowa, and executive editor of the Northwest Herald, <\/a>the company\u2019s McHenry County flagship in Crystal Lake.<\/p>\n
