Ike Pappas<\/p><\/div>\n

Witnessed by millions of viewers, the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald was the first murder ever broadcast live on television.<\/p>\n

Ike Pappas, then a 30-year-old reporter for WNEW Radio in New York, was a few feet from Oswald when he was shot in the basement of Dallas police headquarters. The following year Pappas joined CBS News, where he worked as a correspondent until he was laid off in 1987. He died in 2008.<\/p>\n

The Pulitzer Prize winning photo was taken by Bob Jackson, then a 29-year-old staff photographer for the Dallas Times Herald. He retired after a career with newspapers in Texas and Colorado and now lives in Manitou Springs, Colo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
