Hubbard Radio has tapped its sales director in Phoenix to head the company\u2019s station group in Chicago. Jeff England<\/strong> was named Monday to succeed John Gallagher,<\/strong> who was forced out<\/a> in September as vice president and market manager of Hubbard Radio Chicago.<\/a> England will oversee hot adult-contemporary WTMX FM 101.9, classic rock WDRV FM 97.1 and adult contemporary WSHE FM 100.3. Before joining Hubbard as vice president\/director of sales in Phoenix, he served as market manager for the Clear Channel cluster there. \u201cWe have legacy brands and great people at Hubbard Chicago,\u201d England said in a statement. \u201cI look forward to working with our team to grow our audiences, our clients\u2019 businesses, and serve our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jimmy deCastro<\/p><\/div>\n

Dressed as Alexander Hamilton<\/strong> for Halloween, Jimmy deCastro<\/strong> was the guest of honor Monday at a costume party marking his last day as president and general manager of WGN AM 720.<\/a> Joining employees, friends and family in Tribune Tower\u2019s Campbell Hall were members of the Chicago Blackhawks and Northwestern University athletic organizations. After three and a half years at the Tribune Broadcasting news\/talk station, deCastro stepped down <\/a>to focus on The Content Factory, his Evanston-based national syndication and new media company. There are no plans to replace him. Content and programming chief Todd Manley<\/strong> and sales director Jeff Hill<\/strong> will report directly to Larry Wert,<\/strong> president of broadcast media for Tribune Broadcasting.<\/p>\n

Herb Kent<\/p><\/div>\n

Herb Kent,<\/strong> the beloved Radio Hall of Famer known as \u201cThe Cool Gent,\u201d was remembered Saturday as a radio giant and an icon of the African-American community. Tributes from President Barack Obama,<\/strong> Governor Bruce Rauner<\/strong> and Mayor Rahm Emanuel<\/strong> were among the eulogies to Kent, who died<\/a> October 22 at 88. Colleagues who spoke at the House of Hope service included\u00a0Marv Dyson, Ramonski Luv, Troi Tyler, Merri Dee, Bob Sirott, Art Norman, Joe Soto, Glenn Cosby, Sonya Blakey, Melody Spann-Cooper<\/strong> and Derrick Brown.<\/strong> Also on Saturday, iHeartMedia urban adult-contemporary WVAZ FM 102.7<\/a> rebroadcast Kent\u2019s last program, which originally aired just hours before he died.<\/p>\n

Rick Jakle<\/p><\/div>\n

A tip of the hat to Rick Jakle,<\/strong> a great gentleman and esteemed broadcaster, who\u2019s retiring after 50 years in the business. On Monday he announced the sale of three stations \u2014 WRMN AM 1410<\/a> in Elgin, WBIG AM 1280<\/a> in Aurora, and KSHP in Las Vegas \u2014 to Memphis-based\u00a0Pollack Broadcasting. Tim Disa<\/strong> served as broker on $2 million deal, which is expected to close in early February. Jakle sold his namesake FM station, WJKL FM 94.3<\/a>, in 2007. \u201cThe greatest privilege in my professional life was coming to WRMN as a young 24-year-old broadcaster way back in 1966,\u201d Jakle said in a statement. \u201cI am most proud of building and operating great local radio facilities, creating and developing the \u2018Radio Shopping Show\u2019 concept 36 years ago, and being fortunate enough to build a dedicated staff of great people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robert Herguth<\/p><\/div>\n

Veteran Chicago journalist Robert Herguth<\/strong> has returned to the Sun-Times <\/a>as a part-time investigative reporter. Herguth, who most recently was director of investigations for the Better Government Association,<\/a> previously worked for the Sun-Times as an assignment editor, assistant metro editor and reporter. He\u2019ll now work three days a week with the paper\u2019s Watchdogs unit. Herguth resigned<\/a> from the BGA last June along with Robert Reed,<\/strong> who was director of programming, in a disagreement over changes in the organization\u2019s structure and strategy. In September Reed joined the Chicago Tribune <\/a>as a business columnist.<\/p>\n
