Dave Ross

When sports reporter and producer Dave Ross announced he was leaving the Fox-owned station in Washington, D.C., he said it was to start a new job in Chicago.

“Yes it's true ya'll,” he tweeted Nov. 6. “Cat's out of the bag. after 18 years i'm leaving my beloved @myfoxdc for the windy city. but fox will always be my home.” Followed by: “Leaving the fox family sadly.. details to come…”

So where is he going?

Ross did not respond to my inquiries, but Pressbox D.C. reported that his new gig in Chicago — whatever it may be — is expected to give him the chance to do something new in sports, cutting edge and free form. "I'm excited for the new challenge," Ross told DCRTV.com blogger Dave Hughes. “But it's hard to leave a place and the people in it that you respect and enjoy working with. Gonna miss this town."

After checking with the usual suspects in Chicago, I still don’t know where Ross will land.

But I have a hunch it may be at 120 Sports, a digital network in development at Silver Chalice Ventures, the media enterprise launched by White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and headed by White Sox vice president and chief marketing officer Brooks Boyer. Aiming to start early next year, 120 Sports executive producer Joe Riley and coordinating director David Parks have been quietly hiring personnel for months.

Ross, who was born in New York and grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, joined Fox-owned WTTG-TV in Washington in 1995 after working as a sports columnist and reporter in North Carolina. He also appeared on WTEM AM, the ESPN sports/talk station in Washington.

According to his bio, Ross served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps, participating in Operation Desert Storm and earning the rank of sergeant.
