Robservations on the media beat:<\/p>\n

Chicago\u2019s singular locally produced talk and entertainment show kicks off its sixth season Tuesday with a lineup of special guests, including Academy Award-winning musical artist and Chicago native Common.<\/strong> \u201cWindy City Live\u201d now airs at 1 p.m. weekdays on ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7. <\/a>In addition to Common, who'll perform the world TV debut of his new song \u201cBlack American Again\u201d a cappella<\/em>, the season opener will feature Chicago actor Joe Keery<\/strong> from the Netflix series \u201cStranger Things,\u201d and \u201cSilicon Valley\u201d star T.J. Miller.<\/strong> Returning as hosts are Val Warner<\/strong> and Ryan Chiaverini<\/strong> with regular contributor Ji Suk Yi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dish Network<\/p><\/div>\n

The three-month standoff between Chicago-based Tribune Broadcasting<\/a> and Dish Network<\/a> ended over the weekend with announcement of a long-term agreement<\/a> on carriage and retransmission consent. \u201cWe want to thank our viewers and customers for their patience and support as we worked through this lengthy process,\u201d the companies said in a joint statement. <\/a>\u201cWe\u2019re pleased to move forward and again be able to provide the content of Tribune\u2019s local stations and WGN America for years to come.\u201d The deal restores Dish carriage of Tribune\u2019s 42 local stations in 33 markets and WGN America.<\/p>\n

Lee Phillip Bell<\/p><\/div>\n

Great to see\u00a0Lee Phillip Bell,<\/strong>\u00a088, make a cameo appearance last week on the\u00a011,000th episode\u00a0<\/a>of \u201cThe Young and the Restless,\u201d the venerable daytime soap opera co-created by Bell and her late husband,\u00a0Bill Bell.<\/strong>\u00a0Once known as the \u201cFirst Lady of Chicago Television,\u201d Lee Phillip was a pioneering broadcast personality and talk show host on CBS-owned\u00a0WBBM-Channel 2,<\/a>\u00a0starting in the 1950s. Since 1987 she has lived in Beverly Hills, California, where her children continue to be involved in production of \u201cThe Young and the Restless,\u201d now in its 43rd year on CBS.<\/p>\n

Bobby Skafish<\/p><\/div>\n

Chicago rock radio veteran Bobby Skafish<\/strong> has just written a great new book chronicling more than 40 years of interviews and impressions of the music world\u2019s royalty. We Have Company: Four Decades of Rock and Roll Encounters, <\/a><\/em>published by Rick Kaempfer\u2019s<\/strong> Eckhartz Press,<\/a> is available for preorder online.<\/a> Skafish, who hosted afternoons on Hubbard Radio classic hits WDRV FM 97.1<\/a> until last year, writes with insight and wit about more than 80 of the greatest artists in rock history. The photos he shares are pretty cool, too.<\/p>\n

Charles Thomas<\/p><\/div>\n

Celebrating 25 years at ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7<\/a> is ace political reporter Charles Thomas.<\/strong> A St. Louis native and University of Missouri journalism graduate, Thomas joined ABC 7 after three years as a Midwest correspondent for ABC News. \u201cWhen I left ABC News in 1991 to report for WLS-TV, it was the best decision I ever made career-wise,\u201d Thomas said. \u201cABC 7 Chicago was the most-watched TV news in Chicago when I got here and remains so today. I am very blessed to have worked here and like to think that my efforts have had something to do with that success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Geoffrey Baer<\/p><\/div>\n

Geoffrey Baer,<\/strong> program host at Window to the World Communications WTTW-Channel 11,<\/a> and Erika Maldonado,<\/strong> news anchor at Univision WGBO-Channel 66,<\/a> will emcee the 2016 Emmy nominations announcement<\/a> party October 17 at Rockit Bar and Grill, 22 West Hubbard Street. The event is sponsored by the Chicago\/Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The 58th annual Emmy ceremony will be December 3 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, 540 North Michigan Avenue.<\/p>\n

Paul Lisnek<\/p><\/div>\n

Paul Lisnek,<\/strong> political analyst for Tribune Media WGN-Channel 9<\/a> and host of \u201cPolitics Tonight\u201d on CLTV,<\/a> is out of commission but on the mend after hernia surgery last week.
