As WSCR AM 670<\/a> rides the wave of its highest ratings ever,<\/a> the CBS Radio sports\/talk station is about to find itself without the services of veteran afternoon personality Terry Boers for a while.<\/p>\n

Boers, 66, told listeners Wednesday that he will undergo surgery for an undisclosed ailment and expects to be off the air for \u201caround two months.\u201d His leave is effective immediately.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere's a medical thing that has arisen that I have to take care of,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m disappointed in the fact that coming back will take so long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Terry Boers<\/p><\/div>\n

Boers is believed to be closing in on the final six months of his contract with The Score. Speculation that he will retire in January 2017 \u2014 coinciding with the station\u2019s 25th anniversary on the air \u2014 has not been confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe support Terry at this time as he goes through a medical procedure and extended recovery,\u201d Mitch Rosen, operations director of The Score, said Wednesday. \u201cHe is a Score original and one of the founding fathers of The Score. When he returns, the Cubs may have clinched the division and the Sox could be back in first place!\u201d<\/p>\n

In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, The Score ranked seventh in afternoons with a 3.5 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 535,200. It included afternoon broadcasts of Chicago Cubs baseball.<\/p>\n

Filling in for Boers alongside co-host Dan Bernstein will be numerous substitutes, including such familiar figures as Barry Rozner, Jason Goff, Joe Cowley and Steve Rosenbloom. One name not likely to be on the list of guest hosts is Dan McNeil, who recently became a free agent and expressed strong interest<\/a> in returning to The Score.<\/p>\n

Boers, a former Sun-Times<\/a> sports columnist, joined The Score at its inception in 1992. He has been teamed with Bernstein since 1999. Their show airs from 1 to 6 p.m. weekdays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
