The station was bombarded with ridicule on social media after the image appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/175146445841142\/photos\/pb.175146445841142.-2207520000.1456536171.\/1071225409566570\/?type=3&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobertFeder\/status\/703220618842533889\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter.<!--more--><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to take a moment to apologize for an error in our morning news,\u201d news anchor Ron Magers read during ABC 7\u2019s 5 p.m. newscast Friday. \u201cA McDonald\u2019s logo was mistakenly used on a graphic during a report on the Laquan McDonald case in our 6:30 newscast. We regret the error.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke has been charged with murder after shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times in October 2014.<\/p>\n<p>ABC 7\u2019s snafu occurred just two days after it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertfeder.com\/2016\/02\/24\/blizzard-of-hype-abc-7-falls-short-with-fake-snow\/\" target=\"_blank\">fielded criticism<\/a> for superimposing an animated graphic of snow behind its anchor desk at a time when there was no real snow falling in the downtown Chicago area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WLS-Channel 7 has apologized to its viewers for mistakenly using the logo of McDonald\u2019s restaurants to illustrate a story about the Chicago police shooting of Laquan McDonald.
