Laura Thoren, granddaughter of a legendary journalist and diplomat from Sweden, has been hired as a per diem reporter at ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7.
Thoren, a general assignment reporter and fill-in news anchor at KOAT-TV, the ABC affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico, joins ABC 7 August 31.
“Laura is an aggressive reporter who is always looking to uncover the next big story,” Jennifer Graves, vice president and news director at ABC 7, said in a statement Thursday.
A Connecticut native and 2010 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Thoren was a reporter for News 12 Networks in New York before joining KOAT in January 2013.
Thoren’s name reflects her past, according to her bio. “It’s pronounced ‘Terrain’ and it’s Swedish,” she wrote. “My grandfather, the late Arne Thoren, was a TV and radio broadcaster in Sweden.” He also served as ambassador to Iraq and consul general in New York.
